Hotel Kroneck| Half-Board | 8 days | 11/10/2015 | With breathtaking, almost surreal, ‘chocolate-box’ beauty and tingling-fresh air, it is easy to understand the attraction of the Tyrol region of Austria. The verdant green valleys nestle below the towering, snow-covered peaks of the majestic Alpine range whilst the traditional architecture of the houses seems to complement the characteristics of the landscape. This holiday enables us to enjoy the finest scenery that Austria has to offer from traditional steam trains, winding through mountain valleys to the deck of a pleasure boat, cruising the tranquil waters of an Alpine lake. The sleepy resort of Kirchberg is embedded in the Kitzbuhel Alps, only 6km from the famous town of Kitzbuhel. On the mountain in the middle of Kirchberg lays an imposing church increasing the beauty of the townscape. Surrounded by crystal clear mountain streams, forests and lush green lawns this is an idyllic setting and the ideal location for our included excursions.
Excursion to Mayrhofen and the Zillertalbahn to Jenbach: We visit the pretty little town of Mayrhofen, steeped in rustic charm. There’s time to explore the town and browse the many craft shops selling ornate wood carvings and locally produced goods, before boarding the steam train to Jenbach. This scenic train ride passes through the beautiful Ziller Valley on its way to the pretty town of Jenbach, where we meet our coach and return to our hotel. Train fare included. Excursion to Salzburg: One of the most beautiful cities in Austria, Salzburg offers lovely squares and medieval lanes, Gothic churches and quaint cafés. Baroque buildings bear testament to the city’s once illustrious past, ruled by the powerful and wealthy bishops. It is also famed as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and as the setting for ‘The Sound of Music’. The ‘Oldest...Steam Train’, The ‘Highest Lake’, and ‘Smallest Town’: We make the short journey to Jenbach to join the Achenseebahn Steam Train, the world's oldest rack and pinion steam train. Our journey takes us through soaring mountain scenery to Seespitz, on Lake Achensee. Here we swap the clank of pistons and the hiss of steam for the gentle lapping of crystal clear waters on our Lake Achensee cruise. We rejoin our coach and make for the picture-postcard town of Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest town. A gem of medieval architecture, Rattenberg is adorned with archways, leading to quiet inner courtyards and numerous squares. Train fare and cruise included.
