In a manor house dating from 1710, this hotel and restaurant with gardens is off Junction 22 of the A74M motorway and a 3-minute walk from the Gretna Greens Famous Blacksmiths Shop. Excursion to Melrose, Dryburgh Abbey, Peebles & Moffat: Today we take the scenic route to the border towns of Scotland. We journey through the Devils Beef Tub to view the Grey Mares Tail Waterfall; the fifth highest in the UK romanticised by Sir Walter Scott. We also pass St Marys Loch to Melrose boasting a fine Abbey, where the heart of Robert the Bruce is said to be buried. From here we follow the dramatic River Tweed to Dryburgh Abbey, the burial site of Sir Walter Scott, and the Tweed Valley to The Ancient and Royal Burgh of Peebles. We continue through the Southern Uplands to Moffat, an attractive town and conservation area that has a rich heritage, history and thriving cultural creative scenery. Excursion to Edinburgh & Edinburgh Tattoo: We depart the hotel after lunch and travel to Edinburgh with the afternoon to explore at leisure. Meet the coach from pre-arranged point (point and time will be advised by driver) for transfer to the coach parking point for the Tattoo. The Tattoo (ticket included) is in the open air, so be prepared in case of inclement weather (umbrellas are not allowed!). Late return back to our hotel.
