Splendid white cliffs, sparkling waters, picturesque villages, there's a host of interesting things for you to do. It offers an island brimming with holiday magic…the Isle of Wight is every kind of holiday rolled into one, with sandy beaches, peaceful countryside and enchanting little villages. This beautiful little island was a favourite of Queen Victoria, and is where she built her famous holiday home, Osborne House. You can choose to enjoy a drink in a tearoom, a thatched country pub, or a seafront bar…it’s all here. Things to do: Beaches, steam railway, Osborne House, botanic gardens and The Needles Interesting facts: The Isle has more sunshine hours than any other UK resort and is also the country's Dinosaur Capital!
The Carlton is a friendly, privately run hotel, ideally situated close to the sea to give you the best possible base from which to enjoy both Sandown and the rest of the Isle of Wight. One of Sandown’s largest hotels (120 en-suite rooms, many with balcony & sea views), the Carlton has a bar, lounge, restaurant, dance-floor and nightly entertainment. Bedrooms offer en-suite, colour TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.
‘Around The Island’ Tour: Rounding the Island, we pass through the superbly positioned village of Ventnor, one of the sunniest spots on the Island which is built on a series of terraces that climb steeply towards St Boniface Down. Here you can see the spectacular views across the Bay. From here, we move on, passing through the Island’s southernmost tip and the village of Chale, before arriving at Alum Bay. The sandstone cliffs here are made up of twenty-one colours and it is from here that the Island’s most notable feature can be most clearly seen - the ‘Needles’, three giant chalk stacks, one of which is crowned with a lighthouse. Following this we leave Alum Bay and we visit Yarmouth, a quiet town with a pretty harbour, stone quays, old houses and a 16th century castle built by Henry VIII.
