Lille has everything you need in a short break destination – great value restaurants, superb architecture, culture and shopping.

Shopping is a delight with High Street shops on the pedestrian Rue de Bethune, whilst the ‘old town’ creates a unique atmosphere. Lille features countless hospitable hostelries serving up local specialties unique to the area. The city has the biggest flea market in Europe and amongst the many boutiques and shops you will find Europe’s largest book shop – the Furet du Nord. The central square is named after General de Gaulle who was born here. Head for the Hotel de Ville has a belfry at 104 metres, this is the tallest in Europe and the Palace of Fine Arts which has the richest collection of any museum in France after the Louvre.

We include an excursion to the medieval town of Bruges – truly one of the architectural gems of northern Europe; free time to explore Lille; and a visit Adinkerke for some bargain shopping.

Excursions

Excursion to Bruges: Pretty as a picture, this is the ‘Venice of the North’; one of the most charming of European towns, and has a fairytale mix of romantic canals and magnificently preserved old buildings. It is a delight to wander through the narrow cobbled streets or to stroll over hump-backed bridges crossing the famous waterways on which the city is built – a gentle carriage ride through the town adds to the appeal. Well worth seeing are the Market Square, Beguinage, Lake of Love and Belfry Tower!

Visit to Adinkerke: This small Belgian border town is renowned for its selection of low price beer, wine and cigarette warehouses. Please remember all items must be for personal consumption and customs and excise limits must be adhered to.
