Hotel Heil | 17/04/2016 | 5 daysOur tour to the Moselle Valley is something rather special, giving you the opportunity to experience enchanting scenery, brightly coloured half-timbered medieval villages, crumbling hilltop castles and ancient wineries. Staying in the pretty town of Losnich, just a three-minute walk from the Moselle River, our friendly family-run hotel is the perfect base for exploring the ancient Roman town of Koblenz, where the Moselle and Rhine Rivers meet, and Cochem with its tangle of narrow alleyways and dramatic castle precipitously perched on a rock. No trip to the Moselle Valley would be complete without visiting wine country so we’ve included a visit to pretty Cochem where you can sample their finest wine!
Hotel Heil Moselle Valley The family-run Hotel Heil is located in the pretty wineproducing town of Lösnich, a three-minute walk from the River Moselle. It has a lovely traditional restaurant and a terrace overlooking the river. The Heil’s rooms include satellite television, hairdryer and private bathroom. Some rooms offer river views and some have south-facing balconies.
Koblenz & Cochem Cochem is the Moselle at its most beautiful, with a bank of pastel-coloured, terrace fronted restaurants lining the waterfront and a tangle of narrow alleyways and dramatic castle precipitously perched on a rock. There are plenty of opportunities for some wine tasting and the area also produces its own mustard – ideal if you’re looking for some unusual gifts to take home. Koblenz is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by, boasting beautiful squares with fountains, sculptures and pavement cafes. The Wine Trail Take the short journey to the charming city of Trier, the oldest in Germany, originally Roman with perhaps its most famous citizen having been Karl Marx. During your visit you can explore the stunning baroque church of St. Paulin, the Baths, the Basilica and most striking of them all, the magnificent Porta Nigra, or Black Gate, the largest and best preserved such building in the world. In Cochem experience the history of wine making in the area and indulge in a ‘tasting’ of some of the best wines in their cellars.
