Southport is without a doubt one of Britain’s most elegant seaside resorts – the ‘Jewel of the North West’. It was founded in the late 18th century by William Sutton who established a sea-bathing house amongst the dunes on the unique Sefton coastline and has since developed into one of the North West’s classiest towns. Browse the vast array of shops on famous Lord Street; a broad tree-lined boulevard with covered walkways and arcades, it inspired Prince Louis Napoleon to remodel Paris along similar lines in the mid-nineteenth century. Take a stroll in one of Southport’s award-winning parks and gardens, which provide the setting for the world famous Southport Flower Show every August. Marvel at the stunning views available from Southport pier, the longest overland pier in Great Britain, It certainly is a wonderful place to spend a few relaxing days and it also provides the ideal base for excursions to other places of interest in the North-West, such as vibrant Liverpool, historic Chester, or the best of lovely Lancashire.
Scarisbrick Hotel, Southport In an excellent position, right in the heart of tree lined Lord Street, the impressive Scarisbrick Hotel promises good standards of accommodation and cuisine. Originally built as a coaching inn, this 19th century property features elegant restaurants, a choice of bars including the Knights cocktail bar with its resident pianist and a state-of-the-art leisure club complete with swimming pool, sauna, spa, steam room and gym.
