Central Residence Leysin| Half-Board | 7 days | 04/10/2015 | Our holiday is based in the resort village of Leysin, set high in the Vaud Alps of Switzerland; it offers magnificent views in all directions. This area has everything Switzerland is renowned for, snow capped mountains, rolling green pastures and the sound of cow bells. From here you can get a unique 360° panorama of Alpine peaks: Eiger, Mont-Blanc, Matterhorn and Dents du Midi. Below the town, just a short distance away, are the blue waters of Lake Geneva, through the middle of which, runs the Swiss/French border. You are assured of wonderful mountain scenery and clean air on this holiday. Things to do: Take the rack railway down to the historic town of Aigle - located at the entrance to the Rhone Valley and its 12th-century castle controlling both the valley and the access to Pays-d’Enhaut. Interesting facts: Aigle Castle has been painstakingly renovated and presents the collections of the Vine, Wine and Label (of wine bottles) Museum.

Excursion to Lake Geneva, Lausanne & Montreux: After breakfast we head along the banks of Lake Geneva, visiting Lausanne, with its historic old centre set around the cathedral. The attractive old town is largely car-free and small alleyways with cafes and boutiques, that shape the streetscape in the medieval city centre. We will then stop at the beautiful town of Montreux, located on the shores of Lake Geneva. Stroll along the flower bordered, Lake Promenade and visit the magnificent 13th century Chillon Castle or simply relax in a lakeside bar. Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Express: Today we join the Mont Blanc Express for an included magical return journey which ascends to the breathtaking heights of Chamonix Mont Blanc. Crossing Gorge de Trient and progressing to breath-taking heights towards Chamonix (France), travellers will see waterfalls crashing down and majestic mountain crags rising in the background. Shady forests alternate with cosy villages and ultimately give way onto the grandiose glacier of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest peak. We will spend time at Chamonix, a lively town which is great to explore, with many shops and restaurants. There are a range of cable cars and mountain railways from here which follow some of the most spectacular routes in the world, such as the Aiguille Du Midi.
